The Education Service Center Region 2 is pleased to announce that our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) training program has been vetted and approved by Texas Education Agency to support school improvement in areas aligned to the Effective Schools Framework.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is the application of evidence-based strategies and systems to assist schools in decreasing problem behavior, increasing academic performance, increasing safety, and establishing positive school culture.
PBIS is not a curriculum, intervention, or practice, but is a decision-making framework that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best evidence-based academic and behavior outcomes for all students.
PBIS emphasizes four integrated elements:
- data for decision making
- measurable outcomes supported and evaluated by data
- practices with evidence that these outcomes are achievable
- systems that efficiently and effectively support the implementation of these practices
PBIS refers to a systems change process for an entire school or district. The underlying theme is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject.
PBIS provides a framework for the use of research-informed instructional principles and practices to teach and reinforce behavioral expectations using a three-tiered model. This framework provides a natural pathway for schools to provide intensive or targeted interventions to students who do not respond to primary prevention strategies.
