Integrating Best Practices SW-PBIS and Restorative Discipline Practices

March 08, 2021

The Education Service Center Region 2 works with district and campus teams in an effort to create school climate transformation via the implementation of School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS) and Restorative Discipline Practices (RDP).

School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SW-PBIS) are evidence based practices for putting systems in place that support positive academic and behavioral outcomes on campuses. SW-PBIS is a response to intervention decision making framework for a campus based team that guides selection, integration, and implementation of the best research based practices and interventions for improving outcomes for ALL students. The SW-PBIS initiative addresses school-wide systems, classroom management, and individual student supports within a multi-tiered framework.

Restorative Discipline Practices (RDP) are a set of informal and formal strategies intended to build relationships and a sense of community. Restorative school discipline is educational in providing all members of the school community with the skills and understandings for positive social interactions, relationships that support learning, and peaceful resolution of problems and conflict.

In collaboration with the University of Texas and Texas Education Agency, ESC Region 2 offered an experiential administrator training and a five day workshop delineating the scope of the Restorative Practices and the coordinator role in fostering a successful whole school model. All participants trained in Restorative Approaches were also active members of a campus SW-PBIS team with experience in implementation of school wide critical elements of success.

Region 2 Education Service Center provides training, onsite visits, fidelity check assessments, surveys and coordinated technical assistance to campuses participating in the SW-PBIS/ RDP project. This project requires a signed commitment agreement prior to implementation. For more information contact Mrs. Veronica Trevino at 361-561-8519.
